You can come to Santorini by plane from Athens all year round (takes approx. 40').
Santorini National Airport is an airport in Santorini/Thira, Greece, located in the north of the village Kamari. Flights are regular from Athens. During summer there are also flight to other islands, such as Crete (Heraklion), Rhodes and Mykonos. Seasonal domestic flights are also operated from Thessaloniki.
From the airport buses bring you to Fira, from where you can take another bus to other destinations on the island. Many Santorini hotels offer airport transfers, usually for a fee.
Throughout the year ferry boats connect Piraeus (Athens) with Santorini, approx. Time 7-9 hours. From Apri until October, ferry schedule is expanding with high-speed boats coming from Piraeus in 4.5 hours and many other boats from other islands.
Ferries dock at the port of Athinios, where buses and taxis are waiting for the arrivals in order to transport passengers to Oia, Fira, and other destinations.
Traveling by cruise ship, is an experience on its own. Reaching the Santorini the cruise ships anchor two miles away from the old port of the island. Smaller boats transfer cruisers to the old port, which seems not to have changed over the last 50 years. You can reach Fira by cable car from here, ride a donkey that climbs the small path to Fira.
